A completely new course designed for those new to keeping tortoises (this particular course does not include aquatic turtle care) at an incredibly affordable cost: 35 EUR total or approximately £30 or $38 US). Understanding the basics of tortoise behaviour and biology; nutritional management and practical feeding; how natural habitats dictate the needs of a species in captivity; how to design and construct suitable pens and housing; indoor vs. outdoor accommodation; lighting and heating; understanding temperatures, humidity and microclimates; caring for juveniles; managing growth; prevention and detection of common diseases; handling methods and much more. From starting, you have 365 days to complete the course, and each new lesson is released to you at a one week interval. Everything in this course is based upon over 40 years of practical experience in tortoise conservation, welfare and education. Every section has online quizzes to enable you to check your progress, and those who complete the course successfully receive a certificate (minimum pass rate in section quizzes is 70%). The information provided here is expressly designed to give you a solid basis to enhance your skills as a keeper and increase your self-reliance and confidence. One of the biggest problems these days is that there is just so much conflicting advice and information out there. The aim of this course is to give you the tools to be able to discriminate between sensible and fact-based advice, and poor advice based upon myths and misunderstanding. Only by understanding some essential elements of tortoise biology and behaviour can you hope to achieve that.
